ARTIST STATEMENT:
Someone once told me after seeing my paintings that I’m basically a story-teller. For the most part I agree, but I feel the paintings tell a story the way only a poem can, through symbolism and sensation. I see the world as an exotic and magical place, full of beautiful and odd characters which find their way into my paintings to tell quiet and unexpected stories.
I intend my work to be elegant, mysterious, evocative, provocative, and most of all beautiful. There is no room for irony in the paintings, I really believe in what I’m saying in the work. There is often a little whimsy and humor but never any jaded irony. The world is harsh and often difficult so it’s OK to laugh or smile with my paintings. My work attempts to present a viable alternative to the cynicism, stresses and boredom so common in our modern technological era.
